Introduction
There’s something magical about turning a wedding moment into a piece of art, and that’s exactly what our featured wedding illustrator does. Wedding illustrations have experienced a 63% increase since 2017, with the trend expected to continue to rise.
We had the joy of interviewing Hannah Hargrave-Gibson, a talented wedding illustrator based in the United Kingdom, known for her unique storylike artistry. Whether you’re planning an intimate wedding, intimate event, or celebration, Hannah’s custom work brings emotion and elegance to life.
Let’s dive into our Q&A.
The Q&A
Q: Can you introduce yourself and your wedding illustration business?
A:
I’m the owner of Hannah H.G. Artist, which officially launched in August 2024. I’ve always been an artist at heart from a young age. However, I took a break for a while when I entered the corporate world. But I felt like something felt like it was missing. Then one day, I saw wedding illustrations being advertised and it reignited my passion.
Shortly after, I began refining my style (which is still evolving) and soon the first bookings rolled in! I reinvested back into the business. I was also juggling full-time work at the time, but I’ve now lost count of how many wedding illustrations I’ve illustrated!
I’m based in the UK and currently work within a 2-hour travel radius that includes London, Wales, the Midlands, and the Southwest. I’m always open to travel.

Q: How would you describe your wedding illustration style in three words?
A:
Whimsical. Storybook. Illustrative.

Q: What inspired you to start illustrating weddings and events?
A:
After my own wedding last year, I understood the feeling of post-wedding blues. I wanted to create something that would keep the joy going even after the day ended. It’s such a unique and meaningful keepsake, not only for the couple but for guests too.
There’s nothing like seeing the smiles when someone sees their portrait from such a special day. While I mostly focus on weddings now, I’m definitely open to events like festivals or corporate celebrations.
Q: What makes your process or approach different from other wedding illustrators?
A:
I spent time doing market research and asking my audience on Instagram. They kept saying my style stood out. Many other illustrators go for an editorial or fashion-forward look, with lots of detail on the outfits or faceless illustrations.
My work is whimsical and storybook-like. One thing couples love is that I photograph all the illustrations and turn them into a digital storybook they can keep forever.
Q: Do you work with couples internationally, including in the U.S.?
A:
Yes, definitely. In fact, you were the first international client who reached out to me.
I’m open to international weddings as long as we can sort out travel and accommodations. I love to travel if it’s the right fit!
Q: How do couples usually use your wedding illustrations — during the event, as keepsakes, or both?
A:
It’s usually both. Most guests take them home, frame them, and hang them on the wall. One of the most memorable moments was when the bride’s son took his portrait to school for show and tell. It meant so much to them. These little touches create big memories.

Q: What’s the typical process like from booking to final delivery?
A:
Most of my leads come from Instagram and Facebook groups. Couples visit my website and fill out a contact form with their date, location, and guest count. I offer a few different packages.
Once I confirm availability, we move forward with a booking form, contract, and deposit. Many couples book 6 to 12 months in advance.
I stay in touch regularly so they feel looked after. About a month before the big day, we do a consultation to review the guest list and highlight anyone they want prioritized.
On the day, I arrive about an hour early, introduce myself to guests, and then begin. It usually takes about 5 to 10 minutes per illustration.
Q: From what you’ve seen, is live wedding illustration becoming a trend for 2025 weddings? And what are couples asking for most right now?
A:
Absolutely. I think this trend is just getting started. With TikTok and Instagram, it’s so easy for people to visualize what their own wedding could look like.
Illustrations are great for reels and highly shareable. A lot of couples see it at someone else’s wedding and immediately want the same. I noticed more competition popping up, which actually pushed me to define what makes me different.
Funny enough, 2026 is already booking up faster than 2025. I’m excited to evolve with it.

Q: Are you currently accepting new clients? How far in advance should couples reach out?
A:
Yes, I’m open to new clients and always excited to connect.
I recommend reaching out as soon as you know your date, ideally six or more months in advance. As of now, next summer is already about 50 percent booked. I always try to accommodate last-minute bookings if I can, but it’s not guaranteed.
I’ve also adjusted my schedule to take on weekday weddings. I used to only be available on weekends due to full-time work, but I’ve reduced hours to allow for more flexibility.
Q: What’s next for your business? Any exciting projects or goals?
A:
I’m exploring new territory, like corporate events and company celebrations. I’d love to launch that later this summer.
I’m also working on developing an oil painting style as a new offering. Something that adds value and serves as a more formal keepsake for couples. It’s all about giving people more ways to preserve their memories.
Bonus Q: What’s been your most memorable event, and what’s your favorite part of the job?
A:
One of the most memorable venues I worked at was this past June at a wedding in the Forest of Bowland. It felt like the forest was holding you. There was this beautiful old building tucked away in the woods. Absolutely magical. I’m a sucker for rural venues.
My favorite part of the job is probably a bit selfish. I love getting into that meditative flow while I draw. But I also deeply enjoy meeting different people and hearing their stories.
One couple had lost their daughter and the wedding was their first portrait without her. They gave me a photo and I was able to include her in a subtle, meaningful way. That moment stayed with me. I love being able to bring joy to people like that.
