Introduction
Your wedding day beauty is about more than hair and makeup. It’s about feeling confident, comfortable, and completely like yourself as you step into one of the most meaningful days of your life. For our latest vendor spotlight, we’re highlighting a bridal beauty artist whose approach is anything but ordinary.
With a background in special effects makeup for TV and film, Christalee Hrutkay, brings a unique artistic perspective to the bridal beauty experience. Her signature style is whimsical, colorful, and playful, with a focus on fresh, glowing skin and personalized beauty that reflects each bride’s individuality.
We had the joy of chatting with her about her journey into bridal beauty, what inspires her artistry, how she prepares her brides for the big day, and the importance of finding a beauty professional who truly feels like the right fit.
Whether you’re dreaming of a soft, romantic look or something with a little more personality, her approach is a reminder that bridal beauty doesn’t have to look one way.
Let’s dive into our Q&A.
Q. Tell us a little about yourself and your bridal hair and makeup business.
I went to school for special effects makeup in 2012 and went the special effects route because I wanted to do movies, TV, and film. I started my career in TV and film and quickly realized they pay 30 to 60 days after an event. I started doing bridal, which is not something I considered, but when I did, it was such a happy accident! I balance both fields because both offer completely different things and fulfill me in different ways as an artist. From 2014 on, I kept building my bridal business, focused on branding, identifying my audience and market, and it’s been fun!

Q. What inspired you to pursue a career in bridal beauty?
I think I was one of the lucky ones who knew what they wanted to do from day one. I remember being 3 years old, getting into my grandma’s makeup, doing my Barbie doll’s hair and makeup. I’ve always had the get-go and passion for this kind of art.
Q. If you had to describe your signature beauty style in three words, what would they be?
Whimsy. Colorful. Playful.

Q. What do you think sets your services and client experience apart from other bridal hair and makeup artists?
One thing that really sets me apart from other artists is branding. I had to get really clear on what that was when I started bridal. Traditionally, bridal businesses are elegant and timeless. I initially thought I needed to market that same way, but realized that is not me. I named my business Wild Child Fabrications to feel like me. That attracts the clients that I want. Clients who have a bit of flair and whimsy!
Q. What types of bridal looks do you love creating, and what is your specialty?
I really focus on skin because it’s your base – it’s your canvas. The approach that I take to skin is clean, fresh, and a little bit glowy.

Q. Can you walk us through what a bride can expect from the initial inquiry all the way to the wedding day?
I typically respond within 12 hours and within the first two emails, I give brides all of the information they would need to know to book. Our pricing and booking is transparent so there’s not a lot of back and forth of what’s next. Once a bride wants to move forward with booking, they sign a contract and retainer, and then they get a bridal guide. The bridal guide lays out what a skincare routine looks like, when to schedule hair and makeup treatments, and more.
Q. How important is a bridal trial, and what usually happens during that appointment?
Bridal trials are very important. We’ll schedule your trial around the 3-month mark to align with final details such as your final dress fitting. I recommend wearing a neckline similar to your dress to match your wedding-day look. Trials usually take around 3 hours and serve as a design session to see what you do and don’t like.

Q. What are your top recommendations for healthy skin and hair leading up to the wedding day?
In my bridal guide, I detail when to get your highlights, fillers, cut & color, and more so there is no guessing. Typically, scheduling those services regularly is recommended.
Q. What bridal beauty trends are you excited about right now, and what are your 2026 brides requesting most?
Soft, romantic versions of French twists are making a comeback!
Q. When should couples start looking for their hair and makeup artist?
For large parties, one year in advance. For parties under 8, up to nine months out.
Q. What’s one wedding you’ll never forget?
It was a Monday wedding, and during the trial, the bride stated I knew you were the vendor for me when I found you on Instagram. It was such a fun, ethereal vibe far from traditional. The bride stated this is the most beautiful she has ever felt and that is a feeling I will never forget.
